Not Guilty Verdicts on Four Child Sexual Offences

Our client faced trial in the District Court of Western Australia on two counts of sexually penetrating a child under 13 and two counts of indecently dealing with a child under 13.

Mr Chris Sheehy had carriage of the matter and undertook extensive strategic preparation and litigation in the lead-up to trial. No stone was left unturned in preparing the defence. This included issuing a substantial number of carefully targeted subpoenas, closely examining the extensive evidentiary record, and identifying and obtaining evidence from independent witnesses.

Mr Sheehy briefed and instructed Mr Joel Grinceri of Murray Chambers, our preferred trial counsel. Mr Grinceri devoted considerable time and effort to preparing the matter for trial and developing the defence case in consultation with Mr Sheehy. The result reflected the firm’s strong working relationship with external counsel and the careful coordination of the defence strategy from the earliest stages of the proceedings through to the conclusion of the trial.

After hearing all of the evidence, the jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty on all four counts and judgments of acquittal were entered.

Our client had consistently maintained his innocence. This outstanding result brought lengthy and highly stressful proceedings to an end and completely cleared him of the allegations.
