Taxi driver who ‘got way beyond his depth’ jailed in WA over smuggling meth worth $2.8m hidden in icebox

Malaysian taxi driver, Mohd Raffiq Bin Mohd Ishak, who tried to conceal almost four kg of methamphetamine in an Esky has been sentenced.

“Unfortunately, (he) got caught up in something way beyond the depth of his understanding,” Mr Hofmann told the court on Thursday.

Judge John Prior accepted the father of three was merely a courier, but added he was aware of the risks.

“This was a one-off criminal activity on your behalf,” the judge said.

Ishak was jailed for 12 years and must serve at least eight years behind bars before he can be eligible for parole. He will then likely be deported.
